Plasencia El Año de la Cabra
Plasencia El Año de la Cabra pairs Honduran wrapper and binder with Honduran and Nicaraguan filler. It is the seventh consecutive year that Plasencia has released a cigar for the Chinese Lunar New Year. According to halfwheel, it is also the first Plasencia Lunar New Year cigar made in Honduras. Every earlier version was rolled in Estelí, Nicaragua.
The wrapper comes from Azacualpa, which Cigar Journal places in the Olancho region of Honduras. The binder is from the Jamastrán Valley. The fillers come from the Jamastrán Valley and Estelí, and Plasencia says the Nicaraguan fillers were grown under its organic farming program.
halfwheel lists the factory as Tabacos de Oriente in Honduras, and Cigar Journal says the cigar is handcrafted in Danlí. Cigar Journal calls the shape a perfecto figurado.
The Ring Gauge Discrepancy
Plasencia El Año de la Cabra is a 60 ring gauge cigar according to two of the three published figures. halfwheel's article text and Cigar Journal both say 6 1/4 x 60. halfwheel's spec table prints 54 for the same cigar.
We list 60 because two statements agree on it. If ring gauge drives your choice, ask your shop to confirm the size against the halfwheel report before you buy a box.
Packaging, as Each Outlet Describes It
The two outlets describe the Plasencia packaging differently. halfwheel says the packaging relies on red and gold, and each box comes with 10 cardboard sleeves for gifting individual cigars. Cigar Journal describes a red lacquered wooden box with gold detailing inspired by the curves of goat horns.
Cigar Journal also mentions individual cigar gift boxes inspired by the red envelope (hóngbāo). Cigar Journal says the 6,000 boxes are individually numbered. To find out which packaging your shop actually receives, compare its box with the description in Cigar Journal's announcement.
Néstor Andrés Plasencia explained the theme in the press release that halfwheel quotes:
"The goat represents a quiet but powerful strength, one that comes from patience, balance, and an instinctive connection to nature."
That is the maker's framing of the theme. No tasting notes have been published, and we have none of our own.
Davidoff Limited Edition 2027 Year of the Sheep
Davidoff says this is the first time in its Zodiac Series, which dates back to 2011, that all three vitolas are figurados. Davidoff presents the shapes as a nod to a sheep's horn.
halfwheel lists the same blend for all three cigars: an Ecuadorian wrapper, a Dominican binder, and Dominican and Nicaraguan fillers. Cigar Journal lists the binder as undisclosed.
The main pirámides costs $62 a cigar or $620 for a box of 10, and production is limited to 17,500 boxes. halfwheel describes it as just the fourth time a belicoso-shape has been used. Each box holds a numbered collectible coin, and Davidoff says a purple tertiary color appears inside the box and on the sides of the secondary band, with a wool-like lining inside.
The Geneva-Only Gran Perfecto
The Flagship Exclusive Gran Perfecto is a 6 x 61 perfecto sold only at Davidoff of Geneva since 1911 flagship stores. A box of 24 costs $2,136 (24 x $89), or $89 a cigar. halfwheel says production is limited to 850 boxes, while Cigar Journal says 850 pieces, so we give no total cigar count.
The Masterpiece Humidor
The Masterpiece Gran Torpedo is a 6 x 56 cigar sold only inside a Year of the Sheep Masterpiece Humidor. The humidor is made in France, with artwork by Chinese illustrator Jane Liu, silk embroidery by Clémentine Brandibas and four Davidoff humidifiers.
The humidor price in halfwheel's report is misprinted, so we give no price for this flagship collector item. Cigar Journal also lists a Limoges porcelain ashtray limited to 288 pieces and a German-made double blade cutter limited to 388 pieces, with no prices on its page.

The 60,000-cigar goat run equals the 2023 and 2025 runs and is double the 30,000 cigars of 2024. The Plasencia is the smaller of the two 2027 releases, but it is not small by the standard of its own series.

Buy the Davidoff pirámides if you want a 2027 zodiac cigar on sale from Nov. 19 in a 175,000-cigar run at $62. Buy the Plasencia perfecto if you want the 60,000-cigar run, a 60 ring perfecto and the first Honduran-made Plasencia zodiac cigar at $60. This pick rests on reported specs and arithmetic only, because we have not smoked either cigar.
Choose the Davidoff if:
- You want to buy in November, since it is scheduled for Nov. 19 and the Plasencia is expected in early December.
- You want the larger run, 175,000 cigars against 60,000.

Three things would change our pick. Published reviews describing one blend more favorably would tilt the choice toward it. A shelf price well above MSRP on either cigar would weaken its case. If you want the 6 x 61 gran perfecto, only a Davidoff of Geneva since 1911 flagship store sells it.
What Goat and Sheep Mean for the 2027 Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year 2027 falls on Feb. 6, 2027, and halfwheel reports that it begins the year of the goat. Many companies named their zodiac releases after the goat, according to halfwheel. Davidoff, which halfwheel credits with starting the trend of zodiac limited editions, chose the Year of the Sheep, as it did a dozen years ago.
halfwheel also reports an Oliva Year of the Goat, a 6 x 60 double toro limited to 2,000 boxes of 10 at about $35 a cigar, sold in Asia, Europe and the Middle East with none for the U.S. market.
