Cohiba Siglo I to VI: Sizes, Differences & US Legality

The Cohiba Siglo line consists of six Cuban cigars numbered Siglo I through Siglo VI, made by Habanos S.A. under the Linea 1492 family. These are cigars for adults aged 21 and older. Because United States trade law bans Cuban goods, you cannot buy these cigars through domestic retail shops.

Which Siglo Fits Your Smoking Time

Choose your size by length and ring gauge, because those are the facts we can state. Siglo I is the shortest at 4 inches with a 40 ring gauge, Siglo VI is the thickest with a 52 ring gauge, and Siglo V is the longest at 6 3/4 inches. A larger ring gauge means a thicker cigar, while shorter lengths take less time to complete than longer formats.

We do not publish size-by-size flavor scores, strength ratings, or smoking times because those numbers are unpublished here. The entire Siglo series is produced in Cuba, which means no size in the lineup is legally sold inside the United States. For an introduction to the manufacturer and historic lines, see our Cohiba brand guide.

The Six Siglo Sizes

The Linea 1492 family consists of six formats. Our Cohiba brand guide describes the Siglos as the everyday premium Cuban Cohibas. Each ring gauge unit equals one 64th of an inch in diameter.

Size Length Ring Gauge Vitola Type
Cohiba Siglo I 4 inches 40 Petit corona
Cohiba Siglo II 5 1/8 inches 42 Petit corona
Cohiba Siglo III 6 1/8 inches 42 Long corona
Cohiba Siglo IV 5 5/8 inches 46 Corona gorda / grand corona
Cohiba Siglo V 6 3/4 inches 43 Lonsdale
Cohiba Siglo VI 5 7/8 inches 52 Robusto extra

Comparing the measurements clarifies the physical differences between the selections. Siglo II and Siglo III share the same 42 ring gauge but differ by exactly 1 inch in length. Siglo IV has a 46 ring gauge, which makes it the second-thickest cigar in the line behind Siglo VI. Siglo III at 6 1/8 inches and Siglo V at 6 3/4 inches sit 5/8 inch apart in length. For definitions of these vitola names across the industry, read our cigar sizes guide.

Siglo VI and the Thick Ring Gauge Option

Siglo VI is 5 7/8 inches long with a 52 ring gauge, making it the thickest of the six Siglo sizes. The format is classed as a robusto extra. Siglo VI was added to the range later than the first five sizes. It is reported to date from 2002, about ten years after the first five sizes, which date from about 1992; treat both as approximate.

Siglo VI prices and tasting notes are unpublished here. If you want to see how the brand compares to other historical Cuban labels, check our list of the best Cuban cigar brands. You can also read our Montecristo vs Cohiba comparison. It compares the two Cuban-heritage brands.

Siglo I and II as Short Smokes

Siglo I measures 4 inches with a 40 ring gauge, while Siglo II measures 5 1/8 inches with a 42 ring gauge. Both cigars are classed as petit coronas, but Siglo II is 1 1/8 inches longer and two 64ths of an inch thicker than Siglo I. These two formats are the shortest selections in the Linea 1492 portfolio.

Flavor notes, specific smoking duration, and market prices for both vitolas are unpublished here. To learn whether premium selections justify their cost, see our article on whether Cohiba cigars are worth the money.

Cuban Siglos and United States Law

Cuban cigars, including the entire Siglo line, are not legally sold in the United States. The 1962 United States embargo on Cuba, enforced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), bans commercial import and retail sale. Personal import rules were tightened in 2020. See why Cuban cigars are illegal in the US for the current rules and the official sources.

In the United States, the legal brand named Cohiba is produced outside Cuba by General Cigar. Our brand guide names Cohiba Blue and Serie M as the modern premium non-Cuban lines. Those non-Cuban lines are separate cigars, and this page does not cover their sizes. For how Cuban and Dominican cigars differ, see our Cuban vs Dominican cigars comparison.

Cohiba Siglo vs Behike

The Siglo series and the Behike line are separate Cuban Cohiba collections made by Habanos S.A. The Cuban Cohiba brand was created in 1966, first made in secret for Fidel Castro, per our brand guide. While the Siglo line forms the Linea 1492 collection, the Behike line represents a separate ultra-premium line consisting of BHK 52, BHK 54, and BHK 56.

Our Cohiba brand guide describes the Siglos as the everyday premium Cuban Cohibas, whereas the Behikes sit at the top tier of production. We do not publish price points or score comparisons between the lines. To learn about the BHK sizes and their medio tiempo tobacco, read our Cohiba Behike guide.

Spotting a Counterfeit Siglo

Counterfeit Cuban Cohibas are one of the most-faked luxury goods in the world. Buyers outside the United States should buy only from an authorized Habanos S.A. retailer. For detailed visual checks, see our guide on how to spot fake cigars.
